Description
The Tactical Vehicles program under the United States Special Operations Command is dedicated to enhancing the capabilities of Special Operations Forces (SOF) through the procurement and modification of ground tactical vehicles. These vehicles play a crucial role in missions such as Counterterrorism, Counter-Proliferation, and Unconventional Warfare. The program provides SOF with a variety of vehicles categorized as Light, Medium, Heavy, and Commercial, including the Lightweight Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle (LTATV) and Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicle. The primary goal is to equip these vehicles with advanced modifications like Command, Control, Communications, Computer, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems to support the 2022 National Defense Strategy.
A key focus within this program is the procurement of Non-Standard Commercial Vehicles (NSCVs), designed to blend into local environments where SOF operates. These vehicles receive specific modifications to enhance protection and communication capabilities. Plans for FY 2025 include procuring both armored and unarmored NSCVs along with Special Operations peculiar modification kits. This initiative also encompasses production and fielding support to ensure these vehicles effectively meet mission requirements.
Another significant aspect of the Tactical Vehicles program is the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), which replaces the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). The JLTV offers improved mobility and survivability. The program aims to equip JLTVs with SOF-specific modification kits that enhance their interoperability in SOF formations. For FY 2025, there are plans to procure numerous JLTV SO-p mod kits focusing on improving safety and lethality for SOF missions.
The Tactical Vehicles program is committed to rapidly fielding advanced tactical vehicles that provide an enduring advantage for SOF operations worldwide. By concentrating on both procurement and specialized modifications, the program ensures that SOF units are equipped with versatile and capable platforms necessary for executing complex missions across diverse environments.
