Description
The Tactical Electric Power Recapitalization program is focused on enhancing the Army's power generation and distribution capabilities by modernizing its Deployable Power Generation and Distribution System (DPGDS). This initiative aims to provide mission-critical power to strategic missile defense assets, such as the Army/Navy Transportable Radar Surveillance (AN/TPY-2) X-Band Radar in Forward-Based Mode. These radars are vital for detecting, classifying, and tracking ballistic missiles, supporting national defense objectives.

A primary goal of this program is to extend the service life of existing power units by integrating advanced technology and reducing emissions with new EPA Tier engines. The recapitalized MEP-PU-810 power units will be available in two configurations: the MEP-PU-810C, a towed trailer setup, and the MEP-PU-810D, a 5th wheel configuration approved for road use. These units are designed to operate independently or within a multi-unit microgrid configuration, offering flexibility and resilience in various operational environments.

Additionally, the program supports the Army's Prime Power Battalion in its National Response Framework mission, which includes civil defense and climate-related disaster support. By stabilizing operating costs and improving reliability and efficiency, the recapitalization effort ensures these power units remain effective in both military and civilian applications. This initiative aligns with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act, highlighting the importance of these assets for homeland defense missions and domestic emergency responses.

The Tactical Electric Power Recapitalization program is crucial for maintaining the Army's operational readiness and capability to support both defense operations and civil authorities. Through strategic investment in modernizing power generation systems, this program seeks to enhance the Army's ability to respond effectively to a wide range of scenarios while ensuring environmental compliance and cost-effectiveness.
