Description
The Synthetic Training Environment (STE) is an initiative by the Army to enhance training capabilities for soldiers and units. Its primary goal is to provide a next-generation, holistic training environment that allows soldiers to train in realistic scenarios, including urban, woodland, jungle, desert, and subterranean settings. This program is designed to improve soldier proficiency and readiness before live operations by offering training at the point of need. The STE includes several key components such as Reconfigurable Virtual Collective Trainers (RVCT), Squad Immersive Virtual Trainer (SiVT), STE Live, and Soldier Virtual Trainer (SVT).
The RVCT component focuses on providing collective training capabilities through simulated real-time battlefield environments. It includes various configurations like air, ground, and non-rated crew member trainers essential for different military platforms such as Abrams tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles. The RVCT aims to enhance the effectiveness of combined arms training strategies by offering interactive and immersive experiences. Additionally, it supports the integration of advanced technologies to ensure comprehensive training solutions.
The Soldier Virtual Trainer (SVT) is another critical element within the STE framework. It focuses on developing weapon skills and joint fires training capabilities, replacing existing programs with more advanced systems that support close combat squads. The SVT leverages technologies from the Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS) to provide a platform for fighting, rehearsing, and training. This ensures that soldiers are better prepared for real-world combat scenarios through enhanced virtual training experiences.
Furthermore, the STE Software (STE-SW) component integrates One World Terrain (OWT), Training Simulation Software (TSS), and Training Management Tools (TMT) to support various training activities. These software solutions facilitate seamless integration across different training platforms and locations. The program also emphasizes post-deployment software support to maintain system updates and address any technical issues promptly. The STE aims to revolutionize Army training by leveraging cutting-edge technology to improve soldier lethality and survivability in complex operational environments.
