Description
The Strategic Mid-Range Fires program is focused on enhancing the Army's capabilities to address near-term and mid-term threats through advanced missile systems. This initiative aligns with the Army's Long Range Precision Fires modernization priority, aiming to provide Combatant Commanders with a strategic, ground-mobile, offensive missile capability. It utilizes existing technologies like SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles for ground launch, offering a responsive and accurate deep strike capability against high-value targets.

The Mid-Range Capability Ground Support Equipment component integrates joint service technologies to support the operational deployment of these missile systems. This includes developing essential infrastructure such as the Battery Operations Center, prime movers, trailers, generators, and support vehicles. The Battery Operations Center houses command and control systems that enable firing missiles over mid-range distances at various speeds and altitudes.

The Mid-Range Capability Missiles component involves procuring missiles and associated support equipment necessary for fielding the prototype battery. This effort ensures that missile systems can engage targets effectively across different operational scenarios. Although funding for this component was moved to another program element in FY 2024, it remains a critical part of the overall strategic mid-range fires initiative.

The Mid-Range Capability Launcher Payload Deployment System is designed to stow and deploy a mix of missile types, including SM-6 and Tomahawk missiles. This system supports various operational needs by enabling flexible deployment options for different mission requirements. The project also emphasizes logistics support to ensure safe and effective fielding of these advanced systems, with ongoing efforts transitioning to Program Executive Office Missiles and Space in subsequent fiscal years.
