1507N - Weapons Procurement, Navy
Description
The Standard Missiles Mods program, part of the Navy's Weapons Procurement initiative, focuses on enhancing missile capabilities through modifications. The primary goal is to support the deployment of DDG 1000 Class Ships by procuring modification kits for SM-2 BLK IIIAZ. These kits are essential for integrating SM-2 BLK IIIA rounds with the new radar and combat systems of the DDG 1000, ensuring compatibility with its X-band link and interrupted continuous wave illumination.
Additionally, the program aims to advance the SM-2 BLK IIIC variant, designated as a Maritime Accelerated Capabilities Office (MACO) program. This variant enhances performance against multiple threats and improves electronic attack resilience. The objective is to leverage existing SM-2 inventory and technology to provide a cost-effective mix of weapons that meet diverse mission requirements.
For FY 2025, efforts include procuring units of SM-2 BLK IIIC with an emphasis on transitioning to a new guidance section by FY 2026. This transition is crucial for maintaining operational effectiveness and addressing obsolescence issues. Resources are also allocated for production engineering, life-type buys for components nearing obsolescence, and updates to fleet documentation to reflect new capabilities and threats.
Efforts in FY 2025 also involve procuring containers and equipment necessary for missile transportation and installation. This includes acquiring flight termination systems for fleet firings using the new guidance section of SM-2 BLK IIIC missiles. The overarching objective is to ensure sustained production capability while incorporating lessons learned from previous phases to enhance design, quality assurance, and production efficiency.
