2032A - Missile Procurement, Army
Budget Activity
04 - Spares and repair parts
Description
The Spares and Repair Parts initiative within the Army's missile procurement activities is dedicated to ensuring the readiness and sustainability of military equipment. It achieves this by acquiring necessary spare and repair parts to support the initial fielding of new or modified end items, ensuring these systems remain operational and effective. This effort involves procuring depot-level repairable secondary items from both Army Supply Management activities and commercial life cycle support vendors.
A key objective is to provide initial issue spares support in the same year that end items are fielded. This aligns with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act, which emphasizes the necessity of these items for active and reserve components engaged in homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and military support to civil authorities. By maintaining a steady supply of spares, the initiative aims to enhance the operational readiness of critical defense systems.
The program also includes specific provisions for Patriot Modification Initial Spares, reflecting a commitment to maintaining advanced missile defense capabilities. These efforts are directed towards continuing acquisition efforts, ensuring that the Army can sustain its missile systems effectively. This supports broader defense objectives and strategic readiness across various operational scenarios.
The Spares and Repair Parts initiative highlights a strategic focus on lifecycle management and logistical support for military hardware. By investing in spare parts procurement, the Army aims to mitigate downtime and enhance the longevity and performance of its defense systems, contributing to mission success and national security objectives.
