2034A - Procurement of Ammunition, Army
Description
The Shoulder Launched Munitions, All Types program is designed to enhance the Army's operational readiness and modernization efforts by procuring various munitions systems. It supports the Army Strategy Line of Effort 1 by providing essential anti-armor and anti-personnel capabilities for joint, multi-domain, high-intensity conflicts. Key components include the AT4CS-RS, a lightweight, disposable anti-armor weapon for close combat operations, and the 7.62MM Tracer round used in training with the Multi-Role Anti-Armor Anti-Personnel Weapon System (MAAWS).
The program also aims to improve soldier lethality through advanced munitions like the HE 441E Programmable Airburst Round, which enhances accuracy and effectiveness against personnel in defilade positions. The Individual Assault Munition (IAM) is another critical component, offering multi-target capabilities and reducing logistical burdens while supporting operations in urban and complex terrains. These efforts align with the Soldier Lethality Modernization Line of Effort, ensuring soldiers maintain an operational advantage over near-peer adversaries.
Training is a significant aspect of this program. Items like the 84 MM TPT 141 Target Practice Tracer and the 21MM Subcaliber practice rocket facilitate cost-effective proficiency development. These training munitions simulate real-world scenarios while minimizing noise and back blast, supporting both individual and collective training requirements at various Army facilities. The Bunker Defeat Munition (BDM) complements these efforts by providing a versatile solution for defeating field fortifications and lightly armored vehicles.
The Shoulder Launched Munitions program plays a crucial role in maintaining a robust war reserve inventory that meets critical operational, training, and test requirements. By aligning with Department of Defense directives and Army procurement goals, this program ensures that active and reserve components are well-equipped for homeland defense missions and other strategic objectives.
