Description
The Physical Security Systems (OPA3) program is designed to bolster the security of Army installations, personnel, and critical assets against threats like sabotage, espionage, and terrorism. Its primary goal is to mitigate risks and vulnerabilities by providing commanders with advanced technological tools to maintain the readiness and sustainability of Army forces. A key component of this initiative is the deployment of the Integrated Commercial Intrusion Detection System (ICIDS), which uses sensors, surveillance, and control devices to safeguard sensitive areas such as munitions storage and information facilities.
ICIDS offers comprehensive intrusion detection capabilities, focusing on detecting, assessing, and responding to unauthorized entries into secured facilities. By reducing reliance on physical security personnel, ICIDS enhances operational efficiency while upholding high-security standards. The system is being implemented at various Army sites, including Anniston Army Depot and Fort Wainwright, with resources allocated for both existing and new facilities.
The program also includes the Commercial Intrusion Detection Systems (CIDS) for locations where ICIDS deployment is not feasible. CIDS provides necessary security measures for conventional arms storage and other high-risk areas in line with Army policies. This component supports unit readiness by upgrading intrusion detection systems across Active, National Guard, and Reserve sites. Modernization efforts involve enhancements to motion sensors and access control systems to meet current security criteria.
Additionally, the program covers Other Physical Security Measures Equipment such as Automated Installation Entry (AIE) systems. These systems are vital for managing access control at Army installations through electronic physical access control systems (ePACs). AIE systems incorporate advanced technologies like facial recognition to streamline visitor vetting processes while complying with Department of Defense requirements. This comprehensive approach ensures that all aspects of physical security are addressed across various Army installations worldwide.
