Description
The Other Missile Product Improvement Programs, specifically the VV2: TOW Weapon System, aim to enhance the capabilities of the TOW missile system used by various Army Brigade Combat Teams and the United States Marine Corps. The focus is on improving safety, reliability, and lethality of the TOW missiles and launchers, while also enhancing their network capabilities. These improvements are intended to support Multi-Domain Operations and Joint All Domain Operations by providing precise lethal capabilities against armored threats across multiple domains.

In FY 2025, efforts are directed towards mitigating obsolescence in TOW missiles, managing system integration, and addressing countermeasure and threat management. This involves developing and qualifying new components such as the Radio Frequency Data-Link, Missile Computer, and Short Wave Infra-Red beacon. Once qualified, these components will be integrated into production through Engineering Change Proposals. The program includes expanding component builds and conducting tests at various levels to ensure readiness for operational deployment.

The program also emphasizes integration and countermeasure/threat management by preparing technical assessments, threat analyses, concept studies, demonstrations, tests, and risk mitigation efforts. These activities aim to address current and emerging threats effectively. The increase in resources from FY 2024 to FY 2025 supports expanded hardware builds and testing programs necessary for these objectives.

The acquisition strategy leverages in-house expertise, defense industry capabilities, and other government agencies to maintain the effectiveness of the TOW Weapon System while incorporating new technologies. Raytheon serves as the prime contractor due to its unique qualifications in producing all configurations of TOW missiles. This strategic approach ensures that urgent operational needs can be met promptly while positioning the system for future requirements.
