Description
Operating Forces Support Equipment is part of the Navy's procurement initiatives, focusing on enhancing naval forces' operational capabilities through acquiring essential support equipment. This initiative targets key areas such as live firefighting training devices, mobile aircraft training devices, and shipboard firefighting responders and equipment. The main goal is to ensure that both civilian and military response crews are well-trained and equipped to manage various emergency scenarios, especially those involving fire hazards.
The program prioritizes acquiring live fire mobile training devices, which are vital for creating realistic training environments for structural and shipboard fire scenarios. These devices simulate confined space rescue situations, improving firefighters' proficiency and certification skills. Additionally, mobile aircraft training devices are acquired to simulate propane fuel fires for different aircraft types, providing comprehensive hands-on training for Navy personnel.
Enhancing shipboard firefighting capabilities is another crucial aspect of the program. This includes specialized equipment and suppression apparatus necessary for effective all-hazards response at shore locations and Navy ports. The program addresses deficiencies identified in recent fleet asset reviews by increasing resources such as hose adapters, nozzles, SCBA compressors, and advanced technology like thermal imagers and unmanned agent application systems.
Moreover, the program involves procuring fender/bumper/separator systems to protect ships and submarines from damage while docked or moored. These systems include hydro-pneumatic rubber fenders and composite camels that provide necessary standoff distances between vessels and piers. By investing in these protective measures, the program aims to reduce maintenance requirements and enhance naval infrastructure longevity while ensuring safe docking procedures for various classes of ships and submarines.
