01 - Tactical and support vehicles
Description
The NonTactical Vehicles, Other program within the Army is dedicated to procuring a variety of vehicles to support different operational needs. This initiative includes General Purpose Vehicles, Special Purpose Vehicles, and Heavy Armored Vehicles. The primary aim is to replace outdated or unserviceable vehicles and address shortages, ensuring the Army maintains a fleet capable of supporting facility engineering, maintenance activities, and general administrative tasks. These vehicles are sourced from commercial production lines and include types such as carryalls, cargo trucks, and light armored vehicles.
General Purpose Vehicles are designed for administrative use and transporting personnel and cargo. They include various truck types like stake trucks, tractor trucks, and fuel servicing tankers. These vehicles are essential for operations in locations where leasing options from the General Services Administration (GSA) are unavailable, such as Japan and Korea. The program also provides technical support for developing specifications and conducting inspections on specialized vehicle types like Commercial Light Armored Vehicles (CLAVs), which offer inconspicuous force protection.
Special Purpose Vehicles fulfill specific roles in supporting facility engineering and maintenance tasks. These include maintenance trucks, refuse collection trucks, and dump trucks equipped with mounted equipment for specialized functions. They are crucial for maintaining the operational capabilities of posts, camps, and stations worldwide. The procurement process involves multiple contracts managed by agencies such as the GSA in Washington D.C., with additional support from regional Army or Department of Defense contracting agencies.
Heavy Armored Vehicles provide physical security for high-level personnel in high-threat areas such as Europe, Korea, Africa, and Southwest Asia. These vehicles are modified to meet specific threat conditions and are vital for protecting the lives of General Officers, dignitaries, embassy personnel, and other service members requiring enhanced protection. The program ensures these critical assets remain service-ready through ongoing assessments based on current operational requirements reported by Army Commands.
