Description
The Modification Of In Svc Equip program is focused on enhancing the Army's Tactical Wheeled Vehicle fleet through various modifications. These efforts aim to address safety deficiencies, improve mission capabilities, and extend the useful life of existing equipment. The program also emphasizes increasing efficiency and readiness while tackling obsolescence issues. By modifying existing equipment, the Army can maintain a ready and supportable inventory that meets current requirements more cost-effectively than purchasing new equipment.
A key component of this initiative is the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) modification effort, managed by the Joint Program Office. This includes retrofitting fielded JLTV systems with Mounted Family of Computer Systems (MFoCS) to transition from multiple systems to a single government solution, thereby reducing sustainment and cybersecurity costs. The program also supports capability upgrades such as Command and Control (C2) enhancements, remote weapons systems, additional armor, and predictive logistics.
Within this program, the Family of Heavy Tactical Vehicles (FHTV) line focuses on modifying M1070A1 tractors to M1300 tractors. These modifications involve light-weighting and powertrain upgrades to meet Capability Development Document requirements for increased payload capacity. The M1300 will serve as the prime mover for both EHETS trailers and Medium Equipment Trailers, ensuring flexibility in theater posture and freedom of maneuver for joint forces. Additionally, the program supports demand reduction initiatives like hybrid-electrification kits designed to save fuel and reduce thermal signatures.
The program also includes efforts to retrofit High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWVs) with Anti-lock Braking and Electronic Stability Control (ABS/ESC) kits. These retrofits aim to improve operational safety by mitigating potential loss of control and rollover accidents. Installation is carried out at Red River Army Depot and select regional sites to ensure safe performance throughout the HMMWV fleet. These modifications contribute to maintaining a robust tactical vehicle fleet capable of supporting multi-domain operations effectively.
