Description
The Network Tactical Common Data Link (CDL) program is focused on enhancing the Navy's communication capabilities. It provides a system capable of transmitting and receiving real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance data from multiple sources. This system supports various platforms, including both manned and unmanned aircraft such as the MH-60R, P-8 Poseidon, Triton, MQ-25 Stingray, and Fire Scout. The primary goal is to facilitate the exchange of command and control information across different networks, including joint, service, coalition, and civil networks.
The objectives include supporting multiple simultaneous networked operations and extending the horizon for line-of-sight systems. This capability is crucial for time-critical strike missions, providing warfighters with enhanced situational awareness and operational flexibility. The program also focuses on integrating next-generation platforms with existing Common Data Link-equipped aircraft to ensure seamless communication across various operational environments.
In fiscal year 2025, plans include procuring one NTCDL system and installing another system procured in the previous year. Additionally, it supports design requirements for ship alterations and engineering change orders necessary to meet military specifications. These efforts involve incorporating fiber optic cables into applicable drawings and updating technical publications to align with carrier-specific standards.
The program emphasizes continuous improvement through engineering change orders and non-recurring engineering retrofits. These modifications aim to meet evolving military specifications and ensure that the systems remain relevant in dynamic operational contexts. By prioritizing these enhancements, the program seeks to deliver advanced communication capabilities to the fleet more efficiently.
