Description
The (U)LONG RANGE FIRES program within the Navy focuses on advancing capabilities in long-range precision engagement. This initiative is part of the System Development and Demonstration phase, involving engineering and manufacturing development tasks. The primary objective is to enhance naval integrated fire control across multiple domains, ensuring effective engagement of targets at extended distances with improved accuracy and coordination.
A key component of this program is the All Domain Long Range Naval Integrated Fire Control (LR-NIFC). This project aims to develop a comprehensive system that integrates various sensors and weapons platforms to provide a cohesive and responsive fire control network. By doing so, it seeks to improve situational awareness and decision-making capabilities for naval operations, thereby increasing the effectiveness of long-range engagements.
Another significant element is the Common Weapon Datalink Radio, which focuses on establishing a reliable communication link between different weapon systems. Previously funded under a different program element, this project has been incorporated into the (U)LONG RANGE FIRES initiative for FY 2025. The goal is to ensure seamless data transmission across platforms, enhancing interoperability and coordination during missions.
The Beyond Line-of-Sight Engagement, Control, & Management project is also crucial to this program. It aims to develop technologies that allow for effective management and control of engagements beyond the visual range. This involves creating systems that can manage complex scenarios where direct line-of-sight is not possible, thus expanding the operational reach and flexibility of naval forces.
