Description
The Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS) program, managed by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, aims to enhance the Department's capabilities in several critical areas. It focuses on providing technical, engineering, and integration support for space, missile defense, Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR), Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications (NC3), and nuclear delivery system modernization. A primary goal is to improve data link interoperability and waveform standards to enable resilient and survivable networks across global enterprises.

Within NC3 and Strategic Deterrence, JTIDS executes Enterprise Capability Portfolio Management on behalf of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment. This involves providing acquisition expertise to support the recapitalization of the nation's nuclear deterrent while reducing risks associated with nuclear modernization programs. The program also supports strategic deterrence initiatives by conducting Integrated Acquisition Portfolio Reviews to identify risks and opportunities within the NC3 portfolio.

In Space and Missile Defense, JTIDS provides acquisition expertise to synchronize modernization efforts for space control systems, remote sensing technologies, satellite communications (SATCOM), Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems, launch capabilities, as well as homeland and regional missile defense systems. The program manages acquisitions related to these areas to ensure alignment with strategic priorities and address any multi-service programmatic disconnects.

JTIDS is integral in advancing joint information and capability modernization efforts across various domains. It supports initiatives like Joint All Domain Command and Control (JADC2) by evaluating current acquisitions to propose reforms that enhance interoperability and integration across services. Additionally, it collaborates with international partners to strengthen alliances through improved interoperability roadmaps for future capabilities.
