Description
The DISA Aggregated Items program, managed by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), aims to enhance the resilience and capabilities of the Joint Force and defense ecosystem. This initiative supports the National Defense Strategy by focusing on building a robust communication infrastructure that can deter aggression and prevail in conflicts. It pays particular attention to challenges posed by the People's Republic of China in the Indo-Pacific and Russia in Europe.
The program encompasses various components, including the White House Situation Support Staff (WHSSS), which provides critical information technology and communication services for the National Security Council and White House Situation Room. The WHSSS is tasked with ensuring 24/7 global situational awareness and crisis management facilitation for key U.S. leadership, including the President and Vice President. Its objectives include upgrading intelligence watch floor operations, enhancing virtual conferencing capabilities, and extending intelligence services beyond the White House. These efforts are crucial for maintaining secure communications with foreign heads of state and supporting special mission travel.
Field Commands and Field Offices (FC/FO) within DISA play a vital role in aligning communication capabilities with the Joint Cyber Warfighting Architecture to support global warfighter needs. This involves providing ongoing IT support, facility accommodations, and operational assistance at Combatant Command locations worldwide. The program also includes procuring vehicles for personnel transport to manage network outages and equipment installations efficiently. These efforts ensure effective command and control as well as situational awareness across various military components.
Additionally, the Net-Centric Enterprise Services (NCES) initiative focuses on modernizing Department of Defense telephone capabilities to address telecommunication failures experienced during increased telework scenarios. By transitioning to a more robust infrastructure, this effort aims to reduce technical issues in voice communications while supporting a growing remote workforce. The modernization will also lower costs beyond FY 2025 by improving end-user experiences through enhanced connectivity and reliability of communication systems.
