Description
The Integrated Family of Test Equipment (IFTE) program plays a vital role in the Army's efforts to maintain and enhance the readiness of its weapon systems. Its primary objective is to deliver comprehensive test and diagnostic capabilities through the Maintenance Support Device (MSD) and the Next Generation Automatic Test System (NGATS). These systems are designed to support field and sustainment maintenance by offering electronic fault isolation, diagnostics, and repair capabilities. The IFTE aims to reduce costs and logistics footprints while enhancing the operational readiness of current and future weapon systems in Multi-Domain Operations.

The Maintenance Support Device (MSD) is essential for at-system maintenance, providing quick diagnoses and fault isolation for numerous Army weapon systems. It is cyber-compliant and serves as the standard tool for testing and diagnosing combat platforms. The MSD hosts interactive electronic technical manuals and functional software that verify weapon system operational status, ensuring mission accuracy and cybersecurity. Additionally, it supports Predictive Logistics by enabling ground maintainers to perform efficient diagnostics on diesel engine systems using the Wireless At-platform Test Set (WATS).

The Next Generation Automatic Test System (NGATS) offers a mobile, reconfigurable solution for automatic test and diagnostic needs at both field and sustainment levels. NGATS supports major Army weapons platforms such as Abrams, Bradley, and Blackhawk. It aligns with the Department of Defense's goal of replacing multiple single-function test systems with a unified solution that reduces logistics footprints and support costs. NGATS is also Joint Services Next-Generation Test compliant, facilitating interservice testing capabilities.

The IFTE program supports a balanced investment strategy for the Army's force structure requirements by ensuring that critical test and diagnostic equipment are available to maintain weapon system readiness. This includes supporting modernization efforts at sustainment levels and implementing net-centric logistics capabilities that leverage maintenance data across all support levels. The program also contributes to international efforts by providing replacement NGATS units transferred to Ukraine as part of a broader initiative to counter external aggression.
