Description
The Information Systems Security Program (ISSP) is an initiative by the Air Force focused on enhancing the security of cryptographic systems within various Department of the Air Force weapon systems. Its primary goal is to ensure sensitive information remains secure through advanced cryptographic modernization efforts. This involves compliance with National Security Agency mandates and supports Joint All Domain Command and Control capabilities. The program provides foundational Communications Security capabilities, acting as a cyber defense against adversarial threats.

A significant component of the ISSP is the Cryptographic Modernization 2 (CM2) project, which focuses on adding quantum resilience to high-assurance cryptographic products. This effort addresses evolving threats posed by quantum computing, ensuring that existing cryptographic devices are updated to withstand these advanced threats. The CM2 project aligns with directives from the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Notice and NSA Decertification Messages, emphasizing the need for modernized cryptography across all Air Force platforms and networks.

The CM2 initiative includes objectives such as developing new cryptographic standards, implementing secure key management systems, and enhancing strategic deterrent capabilities for programs like Nuclear Command and Control. The program also emphasizes collaboration with defense contractors to integrate new algorithms and cryptographic solutions. Additionally, it supports efforts in artificial intelligence and machine learning to bolster JADC2 capabilities, ensuring secure communication for both tactical and strategic operations.

The ISSP aims to provide long-term protection for national security information by modernizing cryptographic devices and systems. By focusing on quantum resilience and integrating cutting-edge technologies, the program seeks to maintain decision superiority in high-tempo military operations while safeguarding critical data from adversarial exploitation.
