Description
The Fuzes program within the Air Force is dedicated to procuring advanced fuze and sensor systems to enhance the capabilities of U.S. and allied warfighters. Its primary goal is to provide reliable and effective weapon safing, arming, sensing, and attack capabilities. This initiative supports the Department of Defense's objectives by ensuring these systems contribute effectively to the survivability, producibility, and lethality of various weapon systems.

A key component of this program is the FMU-139D/B, a Navy-led engineering change proposal aimed at replacing older fuze models in both the U.S. Navy and Air Force inventories. This effort is designed to meet both services' requirements while optimizing procurement costs. The Air Force plans to acquire thousands of units annually to maintain inventory objectives, with a manufacturing capacity reaching tens of thousands per year.

Another significant element is the FMU-167 Hard Target Void Sensing Fuze (HTVSF), which provides advanced fuzing and void sensing functions for penetrating hardened targets. This system allows for in-flight cockpit programmability and multi-function capabilities, enhancing strategic and operational effectiveness against high-value targets. The Air Force leads procurement and sustainment efforts for this system.

Additionally, the DSU-43/B Cockpit Selectable Height-of-Burst Sensor (C-HOBS) replaces an older proximity sensor model, addressing obsolescence issues while offering multiple height-of-burst options selectable during flight. This flexibility aims to optimize the effects of next-generation attack weapons across various target scenarios. The program also includes procurement of various other fuzes with annual values below a certain threshold, ensuring comprehensive support for training and operational needs.
