Description
The Family of Forklifts program within the Army is focused on enhancing material handling capabilities through the procurement of various forklift platforms. The primary goal is to modernize the fleet by producing the 5K Light Capability Rough Terrain Forklift (LCRTF) and replacing the All-Terrain Lifter, Army System (ATLAS). These forklifts are essential for equipping Maneuver, Maneuver Support, and Sustainment Units with the ability to handle, transport, and stack materials efficiently during Large Scale Combat Operations.

The LCRTF is designed to address specific operational needs by clearing landing zones of supplies and equipment, loading and unloading combat vehicles and aircraft, and moving artillery assets. It is a critical dual-use system that can rapidly enter, pack, and unpack ISO containers, as well as load and unload tactical vehicles and trailers. The Army has set an acquisition objective for the LCRTF at 2,838 units, highlighting its importance in supporting both current and future multi-domain operations.

Similarly, the ATLAS forklift is a variable reach rough terrain vehicle with a significant lift capability. It plays a crucial role in handling all classes of supply and managing break-bulk cargo within ISO containers. The ATLAS supports the Army's Container Oriented Distribution System, which is vital for deploying an expeditionary force. With its cross-country mobility and C130 air transportability, ATLAS meets EPA Tier III emissions requirements while ensuring increased reliability and survivability. The Army's acquisition objective for ATLAS stands at 2,878 units.

The Family of Forklifts program aims to enhance logistical efficiency across various Army units by providing robust material handling solutions. These forklifts support homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and military support to civil authorities. By investing in these capabilities, the program ensures that the Army remains equipped to meet diverse operational demands effectively.
