Description
The Family of Engineering Combat and Construction Sets (ECACS) is designed to enhance the capabilities of construction engineer teams in various operational environments, including urban, rural, and subterranean settings. The primary goal of ECACS is to support combat operations by providing essential tools for detection, protection, surveillance, monitoring, evacuation, and clearing tasks. These sets are integral to the Grow the Army initiative, which involves unit conversions such as Combat Engineer Company - Armored and Infantry. A significant component of ECACS is the Hydraulic, Electric, Pneumatic, Petroleum Operated Equipment (HEPPOE), which replaces outdated systems to address capability gaps in large-scale ground combat operations.
The Vertical Skills Engineer Construction Kits (VSECK) are another critical element within this program. VSECK consists of six types of kits that provide specialized tools and equipment for maintenance and construction missions. Each type addresses specific capability gaps related to lethality and mobility in combat operations. For instance, VSECK Type I focuses on carpentry tools for construction engineers, while Type II includes battery-powered tools for increased productivity at remote sites. These kits replace legacy systems through modernization efforts to meet current mission requirements.
Power Utility Kits (FoPUK) and Family of Utility Support Equipment (FUSE) are also part of this comprehensive program. FoPUK provides equipment necessary for maintaining high voltage power transmission lines and medium voltage power generation systems. This initiative supports critical infrastructure repair during natural disasters and civil emergencies by ensuring reliable electrical power distribution. FUSE complements these efforts by equipping Army Prime Power units with industry-standard equipment for overhead and underground power line installation.
The Family of Engineering Combat and Construction Sets aims to modernize and standardize equipment used by engineering units across various operational contexts. By addressing existing capability gaps and replacing outdated systems with advanced solutions, this program enhances the Army's ability to conduct effective combat service support operations while ensuring safety and efficiency in both military and civil applications.
