Description
The Family of Construction Equipment program, managed by the Navy, aims to enhance the operational capabilities of the Marine Corps through the procurement and modernization of essential engineering and construction equipment. This initiative supports the Fleet Marine Force in various construction tasks such as beach preparation, airfield development, and logistics support missions. The program includes a diverse range of machinery like the High Mobility Engineer Excavator, Medium Crawler Tractor, and Multi-Terrain Loader, which are crucial for executing engineering and survivability missions.
A significant objective of this program is to replace aging equipment and extend the service life of existing assets through the Service Life Extension Program (SLEP). This effort ensures that Marine Corps units are equipped with reliable and efficient tools necessary for operations in contested environments. The Family of Material Handling Equipment component focuses on providing logistics lift support with equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and container handlers. These assets are vital for expeditionary operations and are centrally managed to ensure consistent availability across Marine Corps installations.
The Garrison Transportation and Management segment is another critical aspect of this program. It is tasked with replacing outdated commercial construction vehicles with safer and more fuel-efficient options. This includes procuring warehouse tractors, bulldozers, excavators, and other essential equipment to support infrastructure maintenance and force protection at Marine Corps bases worldwide. Additionally, this segment aligns with specific requirements in Guam under the Defense Policy Review Initiative.
The Family of Construction Equipment program is designed to maintain a robust engineering capability within the Marine Corps by ensuring access to modernized equipment that meets current operational demands. By focusing on both replacement and modernization efforts, this initiative supports strategic objectives related to force readiness and mission success in diverse operational settings.
