Description
The Family of Boats and Motors program is designed to enhance the Army's operational capabilities by replacing outdated legacy systems with modern, efficient watercraft. This initiative includes the procurement of 7-person Inflatable Combat Raiding Craft (I-CRC), 15-person Inflatable Combat Assault Craft (I-CAC), Common Motors, and Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB). The primary objective is to support large-scale ground combat operations, specifically addressing the division wet gap crossing capability. By upgrading these systems, the program aims to improve soldier lethality and operational effectiveness.

The Army Acquisition Objective for the Family of Boats and Motors outlines specific targets for each type of craft: 392 units of the 7-person I-CRC, 636 units of the 15-person I-CAC, 1016 Common Motors, and 23 RIBs. These acquisitions are crucial for maintaining readiness and ensuring that both active and reserve components are equipped for a variety of missions. The program supports homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and military support to civil authorities, aligning with Section 1815 of the FY 2008 National Defense Authorization Act.

For FY 2025, the program plans to procure additional Common Motors and 15-man boats. This will also cover program support, transportation, and fielding requirements necessary to meet base operational needs. The procurement strategy emphasizes enhancing mobility and flexibility in various operational environments, thereby contributing to overall mission success.

The Family of Boats and Motors program is a strategic investment in modernizing the Army's watercraft capabilities. By focusing on replacing outdated systems with advanced technology, the program aims to bolster combat readiness and adaptability across multiple mission scenarios. Through careful planning and resource allocation, this initiative seeks to ensure that military forces are well-equipped to face current and future challenges effectively.
