Description
The Facilities Restoration and Modernization program within the Air Force is dedicated to updating and repairing test and evaluation facilities. Its main objectives include repairing and replacing facilities damaged by accidents, inadequate upkeep, or aging. Additionally, it seeks to modernize these facilities to align with updated standards and accommodate new functions. This initiative supports various Air Force test organizations, such as the 96th Test Wing at Eglin AFB, Arnold Engineering and Development Complex at Arnold AFB, and the 412th Test Wing at Edwards AFB.

For the 96th Test Wing, efforts focus on restoring and modernizing infrastructure across its range complex. Key objectives include upgrading Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, enhancing lightning protection systems, improving fire protection systems, and addressing corrosion control. These upgrades are essential for maintaining operational efficiency and safety standards within the test wing's facilities.

At the Arnold Engineering and Development Complex, the emphasis is on enhancing hypersonic test capabilities. The program plans multi-year projects such as modernizing the Propulsion Wind Tunnel 16S Compressor and developing a common solid rocket motor cradle. Improvements in optical test systems for supersonic and hypersonic wind tunnels are also prioritized to reduce costs and schedule delays while advancing testing capabilities.

The 412th Test Wing's restoration efforts focus on upgrading electrical system components, addressing fire safety deficiencies, continuing seismic upgrades, and meeting other modernization needs throughout its facilities. These initiatives aim to ensure that the test wing's infrastructure remains robust and capable of supporting advanced testing operations effectively.
