Description
The Facilities Improvement program within the Navy is designed to enhance shore facilities by addressing performance limitations and reducing life cycle costs. This initiative is essential for ensuring naval installations are resilient and capable of withstanding both natural and man-made threats. The program focuses on developing and validating technologies that are not available as Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) solutions, necessitating specific demonstrations by the Navy. These technologies are integrated into various Navy programs, such as Military Construction (MILCON) and Facilities Sustainment Restoration and Modernization (FSRM), to improve infrastructure resilience.

Project 0995, Naval Facilities System, is dedicated to sustaining and modernizing waterfront facilities critical for naval operations. It addresses the repair, upgrade, and extension of service life for these facilities, many of which exceed their original design lifespan. By employing advanced materials and retrofit methods, the project aims to extend the service life of existing structures while accommodating new operational requirements. It also explores innovative solutions for challenges like sea level rise, ensuring that waterfront facilities remain functional and secure.

The Facilities Related Controls Systems (FRCS) Cybersecurity RDTE project focuses on assessing and mitigating cyber vulnerabilities in critical shore infrastructure. This involves conducting vulnerability assessments through partnerships with national laboratories to ensure comprehensive evaluations. The project aims to enhance cybersecurity measures through continuous development and testing of advanced risk management tools. By integrating these tools into production environments, it seeks to bolster the security posture of task-critical assets against emerging cyber threats.

Force Protection Ashore is a project aimed at safeguarding Navy installations from terrorist threats through advanced technological solutions. It involves developing systems for access control, perimeter security, and waterside protection against various threats. The project emphasizes integrating multiple security systems into a cohesive framework for enhanced situational awareness. By leveraging technologies such as intelligent video analytics and unmanned systems, Force Protection Ashore seeks to reduce manpower requirements while improving response capabilities against potential threats to naval assets.
