Description
The Engineering and EOD Equipment program within the Air Force focuses on enhancing capabilities necessary for Integrated Base Response and Recovery (IBRR) and Air Base Resiliency. These efforts are crucial for maintaining operational readiness in highly contested environments, both during peacetime and wartime. The program aims to procure a range of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and engineering systems that support the Air Force's ability to respond to various threats, including natural disasters, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear (CBRN) incidents, and cyber attacks.
A key objective is to equip EOD personnel with tools to identify, mitigate, and neutralize explosive hazards. This includes procuring systems like the EOD Family of Systems (FoS), which addresses threats from unexploded ordnance, improvised explosive devices, aerospace systems, conventional munitions, and weapons of mass destruction. Additionally, the program supports CBRN detection systems such as the Radiological Detection System (RDS) and Radioisotope Identification Device (RIID), essential for measuring and identifying hazardous materials.
The program emphasizes airfield recovery capabilities through investments in Rapid Airfield Damage Recovery (RADR) systems. This includes Rapid Airfield Damage Assessment Systems (RADAS), which utilize small unmanned aerial systems equipped with advanced sensors for damage assessment. Furthermore, it supports tactical communication packages that enhance command and control capabilities for the Civil Engineer enterprise.
In alignment with strategic objectives like Agile Combat Employment (ACE), the program supports distributed resilient basing by investing in Expedient Small Asset Protection (ESAP) shelters and other critical infrastructure. These investments are part of a broader effort to deter adversaries by ensuring that air bases can sustain operations despite potential threats. The allocations reflect a commitment to maintaining a robust defense posture through targeted procurement of advanced technologies and systems.
