Description
The Defensive Cyber Tool Development program is focused on enhancing the Army's cyber defense capabilities through the development and integration of advanced tools. This initiative aligns with the Army Network Modernization Strategy and targets key areas such as Cyber Situational Understanding (Cyber SU), Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO), and Tactical DCO Infrastructure (TDI). Each component addresses specific objectives to strengthen the Army's ability to counter cyber threats.
Cyber Situational Understanding is a mission command application designed for tactical-level commanders. It enables them to visualize and comprehend cyber threats within their operational environment by integrating data from various sources. This provides a comprehensive view of potential cyber and electronic warfare threats. Due to strategic realignments, resources for this component will be redirected starting in FY 2025, as its capabilities are integrated into broader Army initiatives.
Defensive Cyber Operations focus on developing a robust infrastructure and toolset that supports the Army's ability to deter, destroy, and defeat enemy cyberspace operations. This includes providing centralized lifecycle management for defensive capabilities and ensuring secure remote access for Cyber Protection Teams. The program supports multiple Army entities, including the Army Cyber Command and Regional Cyber Centers, by maintaining a secure operational environment through continuous integration and assessment.
Tactical DCO Infrastructure aims to equip local and remote cyber defenders with pre-configured applications for conducting cyberspace surveillance within tactical networks. The program follows a structured development approach with multiple capability releases planned over five years. These releases will enhance mission protection, automate threat detection, and integrate advanced technologies like AI/ML to address emerging cyber threats. Resources support ongoing development efforts to ensure these capabilities are delivered effectively across various command levels.
