Description
Defensive CYBER Operations is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the Army's capabilities in cyberspace defense. This program focuses on developing and deploying hardware and software platforms that form the backbone of the Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) Maneuver Baseline infrastructure. The primary objectives include deterring, destroying, and defeating enemy offensive cyberspace operations while ensuring the protection of critical assets and infrastructure. It supports various Army entities such as the Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER), Information Warfare Operations Center (IWOC), Regional Cyber Centers (RCCs), Cyber Warfare Battalion (CWB), Multi-Domain Task Force (MDTF), and Cyber Protection Teams (CPTs).
The program encompasses several platforms at different operational levels, including the Garrison DCO Platform at the base level, Deployable Defensive Systems at the tactical/command post level, and a DCO Development Environment at the armory level. These platforms are managed by the Program Executive Office for Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS). The initiative aims to provide commanders with tools to control key terrain in cyberspace, gain time, and achieve economy of force through effective cyber defense measures.
In FY 2025, resources were realigned to support the development of a Defensive Cyber Software Prototype under Project CD1. This shift underscores a focus on advancing software capabilities to enhance defensive operations. The realignment indicates an emphasis on research and development to keep pace with evolving cyber threats and ensure robust defensive measures are in place.
Defensive CYBER Operations is integral to maintaining cybersecurity across Army operations by equipping units with advanced tools and systems necessary for effective cyber defense. By supporting various specialized units within the Army, this program aims to bolster overall cyber resilience and readiness against potential adversaries in cyberspace.
