Description
The Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction Advanced Technology Development program, managed by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), focuses on advancing technologies to counter threats from weapons of mass destruction (WMD). This initiative aligns with national and Department of Defense strategic objectives, emphasizing the development of technologies that enhance the capabilities of military departments, combatant commanders, and international partners. The program's goals include ensuring technological feasibility and cost-effectiveness while supporting policy and planning guidance from various federal entities.
The CWMD Cross-Cutting Technical and Information Sciences project provides technical expertise and support through modeling and simulation capabilities. It focuses on enhancing situational awareness for the United States and its allies by developing data integration, analysis, and visualization solutions. The project emphasizes rapid prototyping of software applications to improve CWMD operations coordination and information sharing. Additionally, it seeks to deliver technical capabilities that address urgent theater requirements through non-traditional acquisition pathways.
Nuclear Technologies and Capabilities Development under this program is dedicated to advancing radiation detection technologies and systems that enhance warfighter capabilities in identifying nuclear threats. This project supports DoD requirements for countering terrorism and proliferation by improving detection accuracy and sensitivity. It also involves research into nuclear survivability technologies, aiming to protect mission-essential personnel and critical military systems during nuclear events. The project collaborates with international partners to develop innovative solutions for nuclear threat mitigation.
The CWMD Technologies and Capabilities Development project focuses on developing advanced technologies for countering WMD threats. It supports combatant commands by providing offensive capabilities to defeat WMD facilities while minimizing collateral damage. The project addresses emergent threat technologies, offering rapid capability delivery for urgent operational needs. Research efforts include developing sensors, surveillance tools, and target defeat planning technologies to enhance the warfighter's ability to effectively hold WMD-related targets at risk.
