1109N - Procurement, Marine Corps
Description
The Commercial Cargo Vehicles program is focused on acquiring a range of commercially available and general-purpose vehicles for the Marine Corps. This initiative includes the procurement of heavy and light trucks, special purpose trucks, fire department trucks, refuse collection trucks, tanker trucks, and various types of trailers. The goal is to ensure that Marine Corps installations have the necessary vehicles to support both operational and administrative functions effectively. By centralizing these procurements, the program aims to streamline processes and optimize resource allocation across different bases.
A key objective of the program is to enhance emergency response capabilities through the acquisition of Emergency Response Vehicles (ERV). This involves replacing firefighting apparatuses such as ambulances and fire trucks to meet essential capability requirements for structural and airfield operations. The focus is also on ensuring compliance with new safety standards and National Fire Protection Standards, thereby improving firefighter safety. The ERV component plays a crucial role in maintaining readiness and operational efficiency at Marine Corps installations.
The program also aims to support the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group by updating commercial-off-the-shelf armored and unarmored vehicles at Marine Security Guard detachments worldwide. These vehicles are vital for ensuring quick response capabilities and are equipped with communication systems integrated into emergency networks. Collaboration between the Marine Corps Embassy Security Group and the Department of State ensures effective distribution of vehicle assets across various embassies, maintaining security and operational readiness.
Additionally, the Garrison Transportation Management aspect focuses on replacing outdated vehicles with safer, more environmentally friendly options that offer zero emissions and improved fuel efficiency. This includes procuring buses, low-speed vehicles, sedans, SUVs, trailers, pickup trucks, vans, and cargo vans globally across all installations. By upgrading these vehicles, the program seeks to reduce maintenance costs while increasing vehicle readiness. Part of this effort supports initiatives like the Defense Policy Review Initiative on Guam by acquiring electric vehicles for operations at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz.
