Description
The Chemical and Biological Defense Program is designed to bolster the United States' ability to counter chemical and biological threats through advanced research, development, testing, and evaluation. It is organized around four main objectives: Understand, Protect, Mitigate, and Enabling Investments. Each objective targets specific areas to enhance the Department of Defense's preparedness and response capabilities.

The Understand component focuses on advancing diagnostic technologies and integrating detection capabilities into military platforms. Efforts such as the Advanced Differential Diagnostics program aim to identify infections early in operational environments. The Protect component is dedicated to developing protective measures for personnel and equipment against chemical and biological threats. Initiatives like the Accelerated Antibodies-Enhanced Biological Defense work on developing monoclonal antibody medical countermeasures.

The Mitigate component concentrates on creating decontamination systems and medical treatments that facilitate rapid recovery from exposure to chemical or biological hazards. Programs like the Autonomous Decontamination System are designed to provide robotic decontamination capabilities for military equipment. Enabling Investments focus on maintaining advanced manufacturing facilities for the swift development of medical countermeasures, ensuring readiness for emerging threats through projects such as Medical Countermeasure Manufacturing Optimization.

This program represents a comprehensive effort to enhance national security by advancing technologies that detect, protect against, mitigate, and enable rapid response to chemical and biological threats. By collaborating with various agencies and leveraging cutting-edge research, it aims to provide robust defense capabilities for the U.S. military.
