Description
The Chemical and Biological Defense Program (CBDP) is dedicated to advancing technology to counter chemical and biological threats. Its primary objectives include enhancing detection capabilities, improving situational awareness, and developing protective measures against these hazards. The program supports various projects, each with specific goals to address different aspects of chemical and biological defense.
The Understand project focuses on enhancing chemical detection capabilities, improving biosurveillance, and developing diagnostic platforms for pathogen detection. It aims to create advanced models for situational awareness and integrate artificial intelligence to predict and respond to emerging threats.
The Protect project is committed to developing pretreatment candidates for bacterial, viral, and toxin threats. It also works on improving protective garments and air purification systems to safeguard military personnel from chemical and biological agents.
The Mitigate project emphasizes the development of therapeutic candidates for bacterial, viral, and toxin threats. It advances medical countermeasures through innovative research in areas such as chemically reactive therapeutics and pharmaceutical-based agent threats.
The Enabling Investments project supports infrastructure capabilities and demonstrations that align with operational needs. This ensures that new technologies are effectively integrated into defense strategies.
Lastly, the Emerging Threats project focuses on identifying scientific solutions to rapidly respond to new threats. It collaborates with various agencies to develop methodologies for threat characterization and mitigation. This project also supports the development of medical countermeasures and hazard assessment tools to enhance preparedness against unforeseen chemical and biological challenges. Through these initiatives, the CBDP aims to provide comprehensive protection against a wide range of chemical and biological threats.
