Description
The Ballistic Missile Defense Targets program, managed by the Missile Defense Agency, focuses on developing and procuring targets and countermeasures for testing the Missile Defense System. It aims to create a reliable inventory of targets that simulate potential future threats, enabling the demonstration of system capabilities in realistic scenarios. The program includes various classes of ballistic missiles, such as Short Range, Medium Range, Intermediate Range, and Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles. Additionally, it develops Modified Ballistic Re-Entry Vehicles and countermeasures for comprehensive testing.
Within this program, the Cyber Operations project ensures cybersecurity compliance for the Missile Defense Agency's Targets and Countermeasures. It maintains risk management standards and supports computer network defense activities. The project involves managing cybersecurity documentation and validation results through a dedicated repository. It also includes monitoring cybersecurity mitigations and ensuring compliance with Department of Defense standards.
The BMDS Targets Program is tasked with developing target types across different ballistic missile classes to support missile defense testing. This involves manufacturing target hardware, conducting qualification tests, and integrating targets into test scenarios. The program supports various flight tests by providing targets that meet specific performance requirements outlined in the Integrated Master Test Plan (IMTP). It also involves maintaining an inventory of government-furnished equipment boosters and target components to ensure readiness for testing.
Program Wide Support (PWS) provides non-headquarters management costs for the Missile Defense Agency's functions across the entire Missile Defense System. This includes supporting global deployments, facility capabilities, security measures, audit readiness, STEM programs, legal services, travel, training, and maintenance of facilities. PWS is allocated on a pro-rata basis across multiple agency programs each fiscal year. It ensures compliance with statutory environmental requirements and supports data communications and property management needs for the agency's operations worldwide.
