Description
The B-52 Squadrons program, part of the Air Force's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation efforts, is dedicated to modernizing and sustaining the B-52H bomber fleet. The aim is to ensure its operational relevance through 2050 by addressing obsolescence issues due to Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS). The program focuses on enhancing capabilities and maintaining the aircraft's ability to perform both nuclear and conventional missions. This involves extensive hardware and software development, testing, and integration across various subsystems.

A key initiative within this program is the B-52 Radar Modernization Program (RMP). This effort seeks to replace the aging radar system with a more reliable and capable one. The upgrade will improve navigation, weather avoidance, and targeting capabilities while supporting both nuclear and conventional operations. It includes developing new radar subsystems, integrating them into the aircraft, and updating training devices accordingly.

Another significant effort is the B-52 Commercial Engine Replacement Program (CERP). This initiative aims to replace the current engines with new ones to improve fuel efficiency, extend range and loiter capabilities, and enhance overall reliability and maintainability. The program also involves upgrading associated subsystems such as engine struts, nacelles, electrical power generation systems, and cockpit displays.

Additionally, the B-52 AEHF Integration project focuses on upgrading satellite communications systems. This upgrade aims to provide secure two-way command and control communications in contested environments by replacing outdated capabilities with Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) systems. These enhancements are crucial for maintaining secure communications in modern anti-access/aerial denial battle spaces.
