Description
The B-2 Squadrons program, part of the Air Force's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation efforts, is focused on modernizing various components of the B-2 aircraft to enhance its operational capabilities. Key goals include upgrading avionics, communication systems, cockpit displays, and armament systems to improve performance and reduce maintenance needs. The program also aims to integrate advanced weapons and communications technologies to ensure the B-2 remains effective in highly contested environments. This modernization effort is crucial for maintaining the aircraft's low observable (stealth) capabilities and overall mission readiness.

A significant component of this initiative is enhancing the aircraft's communication capabilities through the Adaptable Communications Suite (ACS) Increment 4.0. This upgrade will transition the B-2's SATCOM system to a more advanced satellite constellation, allowing for simultaneous voice and data communication. Additionally, the Battlespace Collaborative Combat Communications (B2C3) project seeks to integrate an Open Mission Systems architecture to streamline communications and improve tactical situation awareness for aircrews.

The Low Observable Signature and Supportability Modifications (LOSSM) program is another critical aspect of the B-2 Squadrons' objectives. It focuses on reducing maintenance costs while enhancing the aircraft's stealth features through innovative materials and processes. This program ensures that the B-2 can continue to operate effectively in anti-access combat environments by maintaining its low observable signature. Upgrades to the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) system are also being implemented to comply with Department of Defense mandates and improve combat identification accuracy.

Baseline Support within this program provides essential infrastructure for flight testing and integration of new technologies into the B-2 fleet. This support includes maintaining test aircraft and equipment necessary for developmental systems integration, which accelerates the deployment of advanced capabilities. The acquisition strategy primarily involves sole-source contracts with Northrop Grumman, utilizing cost-plus incentive fee contracts to manage development costs effectively while ensuring timely upgrades and sustainment of the B-2 fleet's operational capabilities.
