2040A - Research, Development, Test and Evaluation, Army
Description
The Army Kwajalein Atoll program is part of the U.S. Army's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation portfolio. It supports the U.S. Army Garrison Kwajalein Atoll and the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site, both vital for missile and space operations. The program aims to maintain strategic mission support infrastructure on the remote Pacific islands, provide surveillance and testing capabilities for strategic ballistic and interceptor missiles, and support space operations in collaboration with agencies like USSTRATCOM, NASA, and the U.S. Air Force.
The Army Kwajalein Atoll Facilities Sustainment project focuses on maintaining 1,477 facilities across several islands to ensure they remain operational despite harsh environmental conditions. This involves preventive maintenance, emergency response services, and compliance with environmental laws to protect human health and safety. The goal is to sustain these facilities at industry-standard levels to prevent further deterioration and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
The Army Kwajalein Atoll Installation Services project provides essential base operations support for the garrison. This includes utility services, logistical support, medical services, education services, security, and transportation. The objective is to ensure continuity of operations at the test site by managing daily operations through government-managed contracts. It also supports community services such as child care and youth programs to enhance the quality of life for personnel stationed at the atoll.
The Army Kwajalein Atoll Restoration and Modernization project addresses infrastructure degradation by restoring facilities to working condition and upgrading them to meet current standards. This involves repairing aging infrastructure and modernizing facilities to accommodate new functions or comply with updated codes. The goal is to maintain operational readiness by ensuring that all facilities meet necessary quality standards for ongoing military activities.
The Army Kwajalein Test Ranges and Mission Support project provides critical IT services management through Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM). It ensures secure communications infrastructure, including voice, data connectivity, video conferencing services, and IT support for approximately 2,000 users across multiple islands. The objectives include maintaining robust IT systems that support command operations while ensuring continuity of operations through disaster recovery planning.
