Description
The Ammo Components, All Types program within the Army focuses on procuring and renovating ammunition components to ensure readiness and cost-effectiveness. A significant goal is the refurbishment of unserviceable training and combat ammunition, known as Components and Renovation (C&R) of Field Stock. By restoring these items to a serviceable condition, the Army can achieve substantial cost savings compared to acquiring new ammunition. This effort particularly targets items categorized under specific condition codes within the Army inventory.

In addition to refurbishment, the program supports various testing initiatives through resources allocated to the Army Test and Evaluation Command at Aberdeen and Yuma Test Centers. At Aberdeen Test Center, resources are used for replacing and acquiring weapon components that wear out during production ammunition testing. This includes essential parts such as barrels, receivers, and other components for rifles, carbines, machine guns, mortars, and cannons. These efforts ensure that testing equipment remains operational and effective.

At Yuma Test Center, the focus is on acquiring weapon components necessary for Production Acceptance Testing as part of the indirect fire test mission. The program supports obtaining critical components like breeches and tubes for medium to large caliber mortars and cannons. Additionally, replacement parts for direct fire weapon systems are acquired to maintain production support capabilities. This includes recoils, breeches, cradles, gun tubes, solenoids, bore-sighting equipment, and spares for small arms systems.

The Ammo Components, All Types program aims to enhance operational readiness while optimizing costs through strategic refurbishment and targeted procurement efforts. By maintaining a robust testing infrastructure at key facilities like Aberdeen and Yuma Test Centers, the program ensures that both new and renovated ammunition meet stringent performance standards necessary for Army operations.
