Description
The Aerospace Propulsion program, part of the Air Force's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation efforts, is dedicated to advancing aerospace system technologies to enhance military capabilities. The program's primary goal is to develop advanced propulsion systems that address operational limitations and improve warfighter capabilities. Key research areas include structures, flight controls, high-speed systems technology, and advanced propulsion technology. These efforts aim to support the development of high-speed aerospace vehicles, such as hypersonic systems and advanced air-breathing propulsion technologies.

The Structures project within Aerospace Propulsion focuses on exploiting new materials and fabrication processes to create advanced structural concepts for aerospace applications. This involves integrating subsystem hardware and adaptive mechanisms into aerospace structures to enhance performance and reduce costs. Additionally, the project aims to develop methodologies that streamline the design-to-testing process for structural concepts, ensuring new designs efficiently meet mission requirements.

Flight Controls and Pilot-Vehicle Interface is another critical focus area. It aims to develop technologies that enhance the capabilities of both manned and autonomous platforms. This includes advancing control systems for optimal vehicle performance across various flight conditions. The project emphasizes developing reliable autonomous collaborative platforms and enhancing flight control technologies for manned and unmanned teaming in complex environments.

High Speed Systems Technology is dedicated to developing technologies for high-speed aerospace vehicles, including hypersonic systems. This involves exploring advanced aerodynamic configurations and high-temperature structures to enable future high-speed weapons and platforms. The project also focuses on maturing critical technologies for reusable hypersonic systems, ensuring they meet expanded mission requirements with improved durability and thermal management capabilities.
