Description
The Advanced Research Program, managed by the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), focuses on pioneering technology research and development to enhance future missile defense capabilities. This initiative leverages the expertise of universities, businesses, national laboratories, and allied countries to develop and demonstrate emerging component technologies. The program aims to transition these technologies into the Missile Defense System through a dedicated Commercialization and Transition Office, ensuring that innovations meet the identified needs of the Agency and Warfighters.
The Advanced Technology Development Project explores a wide range of emerging technologies for potential integration into the Missile Defense System. By collaborating with industry, academia, and international partners, MDA seeks to develop advanced technologies that address both ballistic and non-ballistic hypersonic threats. The project also manages the selection process for the Missile Defense Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, fostering collaboration between small businesses and MDA elements to enhance technology integration efforts.
Key objectives include assessing the feasibility and performance of advanced research efforts through partnerships with Department of Defense laboratories. The project provides environments for independent assessments, demonstrations, and experiments to reduce risks and evaluate transition feasibility. This comprehensive approach aims to improve state-of-the-art technology evaluation and facilitate the commercialization of promising technologies into operational systems.
Program-Wide Support ensures non-headquarters management costs are covered across MDA functions within the Missile Defense System. This includes support services for global deployments, facility capabilities worldwide, security measures, audit readiness, STEM programs, legal services, travel, training, and compliance with environmental requirements. These efforts are crucial for maintaining operational integrity and supporting MDA's mission in developing responsive technologies to evolving threats.
