XM320 Grenade Launcher Module (GLM)

The XM320 Grenade Launcher Module (GLM) is a procurement initiative under the Army's Modernization priorities to enhance Joint Lethality in contested environments. The program aims to minimize and eliminate erosion of close combat capability relative to peer competitors in complex terrain, as outlined in the National Defense Strategy (NDS). The XM320 GLM is a 40mm low-velocity grenade launching weapon system that serves as a direct replacement for all M203 series of grenade launchers on M16 Rifles and M4 Carbines. The objectives include enhancing the lethality and safety features of the weapon system, providing integrated leaf sight and improved safety features, and supporting the High Explosive Air Burst (HEAB) and M433E1 capability through the procurement of additional system components.

The program also includes the procurement of hand-held Laser Range Finder (LRF) and Grenadier Sighting System (GSS) as system components, one each per system. The GSS provides the ability to engage targets during day or night and is capable of multiple ballistic solutions for different rounds, which can be selected by the user. Additionally, ongoing contract negotiations may impact unit cost due to increased material costs, inflation, and supply chain issues. This program is necessary for use by the active and reserve components of the Armed Forces for homeland defense missions, domestic emergency responses, and providing military support to civil authorities.
