1507N - Weapons Procurement, Navy
Description
TRIDENT II Mods under the Navy's Weapons Procurement, has specific goals and objectives related to the modification and extension of the TRIDENT II (D5) missiles. The program aims to ensure the United States maintains a highly survivable strategic deterrent well into the 21st century by enhancing fleet ballistic missile submarine survivability, minimizing total weapon system costs, and adding an efficient hard target kill capability to the sea-launched ballistic missiles. Additionally, the program supports the extended SSBN hull life for OHIO Class SSBN TRIDENT II program and funds efforts associated with the sustainment of TRIDENT II (D5) missiles, including warhead components, shape stable nose tip (SSNT), and refreshes and replacement of D5 legacy tooling and test support equipment. Furthermore, it supports the D5 Life Extension II (D5LE2) activities necessary for Strategic Weapons Systems (SWS) subsystems critical to evaluate impacts to design driven by System Level requirement refinement.
The TRIDENT II Mods program also includes funding for various specific activities such as re-entry body joint fuze sustainment, guidance hardware procurement and production support, fleet return missile electronic strategic systems programs alterations (SPALT) kits procurement, warhead components production, shape stable nose tip program, tooling, test/support equipment refresh and replacement, systems integration/planning, and test measurement diagnostic equipment life cycle support. These activities are critical for maintaining the current performance envelope of the TRIDENT II system in the face of a dynamic threat environment and ensuring that the United States continues to possess a highly effective strategic deterrent capability.
