Description
Known as the Non-System Training Device (NSTD) program aims to introduce realistic and effective training devices into individual and unit training settings within the Army. The program focuses on acquiring training capabilities that support force-on-force training, force-on-target training, engagement simulation, and classroom instruction. These devices and simulations are designed to minimize resource consumption, leading to a direct cost reduction through conservation of energy and ammunition. The program supports all Other Procurement, Army (OPA) funding for Non-System Training Devices (NSTD) and procures a variety of NSTD items such as the Medical Simulation Training Center (MSTC), Basic Electronics Maintenance Trainer (BEMT), Direct Injection Jammer (DIJ), Intelligence & Electronic Warfare Tactical Proficiency Trainer (IEWTPT), Common Battle Command Simulations Equipment (CBCSE), Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability (JLCCTC), Digital Range Training System (DRTS), Future Army System of Integrated Targets (FASIT), Battle Command Training Capability - Equipment Support (BCTC-ES), Soldier Monitoring System (SMS), Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Capability Information System (JPMRC-IS), Home Station Instrumentation Systems (HITS), Instrumentable Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (I-MILES), Common Training Instrumentation Architecture (CTIA), Live, Virtual, Constructive Integrating Architecture (LVC-IA) and Threat Integrated Air Defense System (TIADS).
The specific objectives of the NSTD program include providing realistic medical training to both medical and non-medical Soldiers in the Active, Reserve, and National Guard through the Medical Simulation Training Center; offering modernized electronic system maintenance training capability for 40 Military Occupational Specialties at 24 Active, National Guard, and Army Reserve camps, posts, and stations with the Basic Electronics Maintenance Trainer; enabling military intelligence Soldier readiness in support of mission command, targeting, and intelligence soldier certification through the Intelligence Electronic Warfare Tactical Proficiency Trainer; supporting Army Title X training worldwide for Army Commanders and their staff at Mission Training Complexes with the Joint Land Component Constructive Training Capability; providing a high-fidelity deployable instrumented training capability to support platoon through battalion level Live Force-on-Force Training with the Home Station Instrumentation Training System; enhancing the warfighter's capability to prepare for combat operations allowing training and assessment of individual and collective tasks during force-on-force operations with the Instrumentable-Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System; and providing Army owned software, product-line architecture, product-line software, standards, services, and the architectural framework for supporting the Live Training Transformation of Live Training Systems with the Common Training Instrumentation Architecture.
