THAAD

THAAD, managed by the Missile Defense Agency, aims to enhance the Terminal Defense Segment (TDS) of the Missile Defense System by deepening, complementing, and extending its battlespace and capability to engage ballistic targets in the late mid-course and terminal phases of their trajectory. The program includes the procurement of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors, launchers, AN/TPY-2 Radar, THAAD Fire Control and Communication Tactical Station Groups (TSG), and Peculiar Support Equipment including Missile Round Pallet Transportable. The specific objectives include increasing the quantity of THAAD interceptors to address Congressional increases and decrease in procurement quantity from FY 2023 to FY 2024, as well as addressing interceptor obsolescence mitigation efforts and THAAD Battery Ground Component obsolescence modifications.

The program also focuses on achieving cost savings through a synergy lot buy approach for THAAD Interceptor procurement. This approach involves awarding a contract that includes an option for the following fiscal year funding, resulting in savings in material costs over multiple fiscal years. Additionally, the program aims to address interceptor obsolescence through activities such as component replacement parts, materials qualification, alternative source/parts qualification, and piece part/material bridge buys to support subsequent years' production lots. The Stockpile Reliability Program (SRP) under this program encompasses production support, field testing, storage and aging testing, and stockpile reliability testing and analysis for THAAD interceptors to provide reliability data and analysis for cost avoidance.
