Description
Known as the Teleport Program is managed by the Defense Information Systems Agency and falls under the Research, Development, Test & Evaluation, Defense-Wide budget activity. The program's primary goal is to enhance satellite communications (SATCOM) capabilities for deployed warfighters by providing seamless worldwide multi-band SATCOM connectivity to the Defense Information System Network (DISN) Service Delivery Nodes and legacy tactical command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence systems. The program aims to achieve this by upgrading DoD SATCOM gateways and meeting the growing throughput requirements of the deployed warfighter. Additionally, the Teleport Program supports the U.S. Space Force MUOS program by developing systems to facilitate interoperability between MUOS users and legacy UHF users.
The specific objectives of the Teleport Program include implementing an integrated test approach that combines objectives from multiple testing disciplines throughout the testing lifecycle to support needed system evaluations. This involves partnering with various program offices to leverage data needed to satisfy Teleport program test objectives. Furthermore, the program aims to maintain Joint Interoperability Certification of the DoD Teleport System as it undergoes technology refresh and insertion. The program also focuses on providing worldwide mobile communication services using modern waveforms for military UHF SATCOM band users and facilitating the transition from legacy waveforms and radios to the Joint Tactical Radio System. The Teleport Program utilizes a preferred evolutionary acquisition approach to acquire Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) and modified COTS equipment when possible, with direct contracting support provided by three procuring agencies: Program Manager Defense Communications and Army Transmission Systems, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, and Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization (DITCO).
