Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Protection Kits

The Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Protection Kits program aims to procure and provide protection kits for tactical vehicles used by the Army, specifically the Medium Tactical Vehicles (MTV) and Heavy Tactical Vehicles (HTV). The program includes the Long Term Armor Strategy (LTAS) FMTV A1P2 B-kits, C-kits, and Fuel Tank Fire Suppression (FTFS) kits for MTVs, as well as the HETS Urban Survivability Kit (HUSK) for HTVs. The primary objective is to enhance occupant survivability from attack by providing enhanced protection against underbody blast threats and ballistic fortification. Additionally, the program supports Army modernization efforts in alignment with the National Defense Strategy by contributing to protection against lethal combat formations during movement of Soldiers.

The specific goals of the program include procuring 17,833 each B-kit and C-kit for MTVs and 469 HUSK cabs for HTVs. The program aims to enhance Soldier protection to tactical vehicles that are essential combat enablers in all Brigade Combat Team formations. It also supports Dynamic Force Employment to prioritize maintaining capacity and capabilities for major combat by providing Mine Resistant, Ambush Protected (MRAP) level protection during Multi Domain Operations (MDO) and Large-Scale Combat Operations (LSCO). The procurement of these protection kits aligns with the Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle (TWV) Strategy of having 30% armor kits on hand, providing greater flexibility to react to contingencies with the assurance that Soldiers will have the best available protection.
