Description
The T-6 program falls under the Aircraft Procurement budget activity for the Air Force. The specific goal of this program is to modernize and maintain the T-6 aircraft, which replaced the USAF T-37B and USN T-34C training aircraft. The program aims to address issues such as Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) and support the Air Education Training Command (AETC) flying training enterprise to increase overall pilot production, thus reducing the USAF Pilot Shortage. The funding allocated for this program in FY24 will be used for efforts including Crash Survivable Recorder, T-6 Aircrew Training Device Modernization, Crew System Modernization, Service Bulletins, and Low Cost Modifications.
The objectives of Program JPAT00 include ensuring the continued airworthiness and operational effectiveness of the T-6 aircraft, which plays a crucial role in pilot training for the Air Force. The program seeks to enhance safety features such as a 0/0 ejection seat accommodating a larger pilot population, a pressurized cockpit, gravitational-force (g-force) strain reduction capabilities, and increased birdstrike protection. Additionally, it aims to extend the remaining service life of the T-6 aircraft up to 39 years from its final delivery in May 2010. The funding allocated for this program directly supports the performance of a full financial audit as required by title 10 U.S.C. Chapter 9A, Sec 240-D and contributes to addressing the USAF Pilot Shortage by increasing pilot production through AETC's flying training enterprise.
