Description
The Submarine Acoustic Warfare System (SAWS) is aimed at providing submarines with expendable defensive countermeasures and the systems necessary to externally launch against torpedo and acoustic sensor threats. The program encompasses ongoing production of countermeasure devices needed to sustain fleet inventories, as well as improvements to enhance the readiness and effectiveness of countermeasure devices and associated External Countermeasure Launcher (ECL) systems on all U.S. submarines. This includes the procurement of Acoustic Device Countermeasures (ADC) in both 3 and 6 versions, as well as the development of a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) for 3 SONAR Countermeasure to eliminate the need for a 6 diameter SONAR countermeasure. Additionally, the program supports the installation of acoustic augmentation systems in appropriate configurations for all submarine classes, providing long-term solutions while reducing sustainment costs.
The goals of Program 2210 are to ensure that submarines are equipped with effective defensive measures against torpedo and acoustic sensor threats, maintain fleet inventories of countermeasure devices, and continually improve the readiness and effectiveness of these devices. The program also aims to support ongoing production engineering services for SAWS Technical Design Agent (TDA) and In-Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) across all SAWS systems, including Acoustic Augmentation Support Program (AASP), as well as procurement of consulting services for program, financial, acquisition, contract administration, and engineering management support. These objectives align with the broader mission of enhancing the defensive capabilities of U.S. submarines and ensuring their readiness in countering underwater threats.
