3620F - Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation, Space Force
Description
Space & Missile Systems Center - MHA under the Air Force's Research, Development, Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) Budget Activity 6, aims to enhance the performance and efficiency of the Space Systems Command (SSC) by strengthening its business operations and achieving cost savings. The program's specific objective is to improve space acquisition capabilities in response to emerging adversary threats. This involves transforming the organization and implementation of space acquisition to an enterprise approach, increasing innovation and resiliency, and managing program/project priorities according to an integrated unclassified/classified enterprise space architecture. The program also focuses on expanding acquisition authorities and contract mechanisms to deliver capabilities sooner through experimentation, prototyping, risk reduction, and other efforts.
The program element 1206398SF allocates approximately $13.694 million in FY 2024 for civilian pay expenses within the SSC's Major Headquarters Activities (MHA). This funding supports the provision of professional government civilian acquisition workforce in support of all Space Systems Command Headquarters Activities. The planned programs include implementing system resiliency and situational awareness necessary to operate in the contested space domain, which may involve SSC staff support, studies, technical analysis, prototyping, among other activities. The budget adjustments for FY 2024 include a decrease of $1.359 million compared to the previous President's Budget due to repricing. Overall, the program aims to strengthen space acquisition capabilities and support SSC's mission of equipping US and allied forces with operational space and missile systems in alignment with global military and national security operations.
