Description
Small Diameter Bomb (SDB) under the Air Force's Research Development, Test & Evaluation budget activity aims to develop and field advanced precision munitions capabilities to address warfighter requirements. The program is a joint effort between the United States Air Force (USAF) and the Department of Navy (DoN), with the USAF as the lead service. Its objectives include enhancing weapons effectiveness, minimizing potential for collateral damage, and providing network-enabled weapon capability via Link-16 and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) weapon data link. The program also focuses on integrating the system in weapon portfolio trade space studies, conducting trade studies, system engineering, test activities, and system modeling and simulation.
The program's planned activities include cryptographic modernization, program protection, exportability features, cyber security, advanced guidance, navigation and control, enhanced lethality, precise/advanced navigation, and addressing obsolescence issues. Additionally, it aims to provide enhanced anti-jam capability and secure access to military GPS signals through M-Code. The program also includes integration with Command and Control Infrastructure and technical order updates to support ongoing development efforts. The budget allocation supports these activities by funding separate integration activities for TacNet 1.5 WDL with current AUR CCAs in advance of M-Code and new CCAs being ready for AUR testing. These efforts are crucial in meeting the evolving warfighter requirements and ensuring the compatibility of SDB II with various aircraft platforms.
