SMALL DIAMETER BOMB II

Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB II) is a joint interest program between the United States Air Force (USAF) and the Department of Navy (DoN) with the USAF as the lead service. The primary objective of SDB II is to address warfighter requirements such as attacking moving and stationary targets, adverse weather operations, multiple kills per pass, precision munitions capability, and reduced munitions footprint. The program aims to provide a network-enabled weapon capability via Link-16 and Ultra High Frequency (UHF) weapon data link. It is compatible with various aircraft including the F-15E, F-35B, F-35C, F-22, F-16, B-2, A-10, MQ-9, B-1, B-52, AC-130 and the F/A-18E/F. SDB II also focuses on reducing potential collateral damage and susceptibility to countermeasures.

The funding for SDB II in FY 2024 supports the procurement of weapons, weapon containers, test equipment, training equipment for weapon handling and maintenance, software maintenance, tactical to guided test vehicle conversions for WSEP, product support, Tech Refresh for current technologies, integration and testing of changes to the product baseline to meet Congressional mandates. Additionally, it includes required Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) activities such as bridge buys, life-of-type buys, supplier/parts replacement, and re-qualification. The program also aims to address safety and reliability deficiencies through engineering change proposals and decrease weapon system cost while preserving future production capabilities and capacities. The budget may be used for non-recurring engineering activities and operational readiness of engineering change proposals.
